Once the existing facade had been removed and the remaining framework was exposed, it was clear this would not be a standard build. The original 2 storey public house had been extended vertically a number of times and each level presented a different issue and construction method. We worked with Osborne and the consultant teams to create bespoke designs for many of the varied situations that were discovered. The engineering checks we carried out ran into thousands of pages.
The office areas on level 2-5 also utilised a combination of Cast Glass and Schueco products. Schueco’s CV60 vent was used for the first time in the UK to create a vertical ribbon window effect. The STO panels on the main elevation were decorated with patterns created by revealing the face of the panels using CNC machinery.
Completely clad the new penthouse. We also installed Iko hotmelt roofing systems to the level 6 balcony and level 7 roof, FW 50 Schueco Curtain wall with bi-parting sliding doors to the level 6 facade and topped off with a bespoke bronze anodised aluminium canopy and Cast Glass balustrade at level 7.
When winning the awards the judges praised the projects accomplished urban and environmental response, as well as the sophisticated way in which the facade componants, including curtain walling, cast glass sections, and decorative spandrel panels, have been brought together to form a homogeneous and highly refined aesthetic.
